Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai

The Multipurpose Nehru Indoor Stadium was built at a cost of Rs.20.00 crore in the year 1995. The Nehru Indoor Stadium has a seating capacity of 8,000 spectators. The stadium is centrally air-conditioned. The playing area comprises of a wooden floor and is provided with floodlight facility. Games such as volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, boxing, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting, chess, carrom, handball etc. can be played in the stadium. Further, one skating rink with floodlight, two concrete basketball courts with floodlight, clay 91 handball court, a fencing hall with floodlight and an open air boxing ring facilities are also available in the stadium complex. During 2012-13, the air-conditioning facility has been revamped at a cost of Rs.5.00 crore. Sports Hostel of Excellence for college girls has also been established at a total value of Rs.283.35 lakh in the complex. An Open air Skating Rink has been established in Indoor Stadium premises at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore in order to facilitate to conduct the competitions at International level. The 55th National Speed Skating Championship by Tamil Nadu Roller Skating Association has been conducted here in January 2018. During the current year, the following major events at International/National level were conducted in Nehru Indoor Stadium. 46th Senior National and Inter State Carrom Championship, Senior National Basketball Championship, All India Civil Services Carrom Competitions, Pro Kabaddi League and Premier Badminton League matches.
