The Government has instituted "Special Scholarship for Elite Sportspersons Scheme" for extending need based assistance to elite sportspersons who have potential to win medals at Olympics / International level competitions. As per the scheme, financial assistance to the tune of Rs.25.00 lakh per head per annum is provided. Currently, 12 elite sportspersons are getting assistance under this scheme, and out of them five athletes represented India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Government sanctions a grant of Rs.1.25 crore every year.
